LUIGI ROSSI: LA LYRA D’ORFEO & ARPA DAVIDICA

The latest album from Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata sheds new light on the chamber cantatas and operas of Luigi Rossi. A prominent figure in both Italy and France in the 17th century, he composed more than 300 cantatas, and Christina Pluhar’s detailed research has resulted in no fewer than 21 world premiere recordings on this album. “Luigi Rossi was supremely inventive and extremely versatile,” she says, “often shifting from intense recitative to mellifluous song, while also venturing into daring harmonic regions.” Her dazzling line-up of vocal soloists comprises sopranos Véronique Gens and Céline Scheen, mezzo-soprano Giuseppina Bridelli, and countertenors Philippe Jaroussky, Jakub Józef Orliński and Valer Sabadus.
